The Power of Refinement

The Power of Refinement

Refinement is simply compounding in disguise.

The Japanese spirit of craftsmanship shows this clearly.

A craftsman does not chase dramatic breakthroughs.

Instead, he improves his craft little by little, day after day.

Each small improvement may appear insignificant.

But over time, these improvements compound into mastery.

In many ways, this is similar to the Buddhist idea of Right Effort.

It is also similar to a feedback loop in control systems—constant small corrections that gradually bring the system closer to stability.

Life works the same way.

When a person is aligned with his inner values, he naturally keeps refining himself.

Every small iteration makes the next moment slightly better than the last.

This process takes time.

And time is exactly what allows compounding to work.

FOMO(Fear Of Missing Out) works in the opposite direction.

It creates constant anxiety, pushing people to chase whatever is popular at the moment—just like investors who endlessly chase the hottest stocks.

But when you are always chasing the next trend, compounding never has a chance to work.

FOMO(Fear Of Missing Out,錯失恐懼)則恰好相反。
