You Are Not the Tool
Much of the anxiety people feel in the age of AI comes from a deeper habit in human civilization.
For a long time, humans have been trained to see themselves as tools.
After the industrial revolution, this mindset became even stronger.
People began defining themselves through professions, job titles, and roles.
Identity became a label, and that label often functioned like a tool.
In other words, human beings gradually started to toolify themselves.
When a much more powerful tool suddenly appears — such as AI — anxiety naturally follows.
If you see yourself as a tool, then a better tool will always threaten you.
But this perspective is incomplete.
Human beings are not only tools.
We are also the ones who use tools.
When we shift our perspective in this way, AI stops being a threat and becomes an amplifier.
AI can accelerate our iteration, expand our capabilities, and help individuals create far more than they could before.
In that sense, the age of AI may not diminish humanity.
It may allow the emergence of something new:
the rise of the super-individual.
