The Part That Leaves With You
In Righteous Kill, Al Pacino speaks of a man dying twice:
“The first time is when the body dies.
The second is when the people who remember him are gone.”
It is a deeply human idea —
that memory itself is a form of continued existence.
But there is another line I once heard that moved me just as deeply:
“When you leave this world,
a part of me will go with you.
A part of my heart will die with you too.
So you will not be alone.”
To me, these are not merely words about death.
They are words about love strong enough
to remain even at the edge of disappearance.
Perhaps that is what friendship truly is:
Not simply walking together while alive —
but leaving pieces of ourselves inside one another,
so that no one ever fully disappears alone.
